Outkast star Andre 3000 is set to play Sammy Davis Jr. in a new biopic documenting the entertainer’s controversial romance with Kim Novak. The film, entitled Sammy and Kim, will focus on the interracial relationship between Davis and the Caucasian actress, which caused controversy in the 1950s at a time when the African-American Civil Rights Movement was in beginning to take place.
Their affair threatened to put an end to both Davis and Novak’s careers, and the couple were reportedly forced to split after the actress’ bosses at Columbia Studios called the singer and pressured him into finishing the affair.
Andre 3000′s take on Davis for the silver screen is not the only movie about the star in the works – Denzel Washington is working on In Black and White, and another two films, named Yes, I Can, after Davis’ autobiography of the same name, are also planned.
