Kelly Clarkson has taken great pains to make sure she’ll never have to wait tables or sling drinks again.
In the new issue of Reader’s Digest, she reveals that, by the time she was 23, she had put enough money away to keep her set for the rest of her life.
Clarkson, 25, who fired her manager last month and cancelled her upcoming tour, also boldly continues to trash her label RCA and its 75-year-old CEO Clive Davis.

Here are five questions that CosmoGirl magazine recently asked Kelly Clarkson.YOU SAY YOU ARE A VERY SPIRITUAL PERSON. WAS THAT SOMETHING YOU TURNED TO FOR HOPE AND FAITH WHEN TIMES WERE TOUGH?I’m actually not a big fan of the word hope. I think it’s a depressing word. I don’t want to hope — I want to know. Like I don’t hope there’s a God, I know there’s a God. When I was a kid, about 7 or 8, we lived in Fort Worth in this complex and we literally had nothing to do. So my spirituality kept me out of trouble. A girl who lived in the complex asked me if I wanted to go to church with her. It was a black church, and I was one of five white people there. Everyone was clapping and singing, full of joy and life. I only went there once, but it was my first church experience, and I loved it. They were all having fun and I thought, This is for me.DO YOU STILL HAVE A LOT OF FRIENDS FROM HOME?My best friend and I come from similar backgrounds — we’re both from divorced families, and we are literally like sisters. I have two other friends I’m very close to who also live in Texas. I love my family, but sometimes I think your friends become your family.DO PEOPLE TRY TO FIX YOU UP WITH GUYS?All the time! And I’m like, “Really, I don’t think it’s going to work.” I’ve done it once. People think they know you and what you will like, and it just ends up being embarrassing.YOU ARE A NATURAL IN YOUR MUSIC VIDEOS, SO DO YOU EVER THINK ABOUT GOING INTO ACTING?When I went to Los Angeles right after high school, I got some acting jobs, and I never, ever wanted to be an actress! Public speaking and acting make me want to vomit. But I have never been nervous singing. When it comes to public speaking, I stumble on my words, sweat, and pull at my clothes. And even though I hate acting, I love doing videos for my songs. The only reason I did some acting when I first moved here on shows like Sabrina, the Teenage Witch and Dharma & Greg was for extra money.WOULD YOU EVER WANT TO LIVE IN L.A.?I guess if I got married and my husband worked there, I might part of the time, but I’m always going to live in Texas. Texas is my home — it’ll be my home forever.

Paula Abdul’s new reality series Hey Paula debuted Thursday night on Bravo, but that’s not the only thing new in her life.
Us Weekly reports in its new issue that for the past few months the American Idol judge has been dating restauranteur JT Torregiani, who threw a 45th birthday party for his lady on June 19 at Ketchup, the West Hollywood eatery he co-owns (along with actress Tara Reid).
“You could tell she was so happy to be with him,†says a witness at the bash, which included Idol alums Jordin Sparks, Blake Lewis and Chris Richardson

“I can’t tell you how much I’ve been looking forward to getting out there to perform for y’all. In the craziness of the music business, performing is what I look forward to doing the most, so it really is disappointing for me to have to tell you that I won’t be coming out to tour this summer. The fact is that touring is just too much too soon. But I promise you that we’re going to get back out there as soon as is humanly possible to give you a show that will be even better. Thanks for all of your love and continued support.”— Kelly
